Because poly does not get a lot of societal support the way that nice, straight "normal" people do, I think they rely very heavily on their own communities, yeah.

True that.
Rely? good. Support? good.
However when something happens to one group there's no particular reason it should happen to any other... and it's a good time for that reliance and support to go both ways :)
I can see some honest fear that "it's because it was poly that things broke up" however it's far more likely something else as people are funny beasts.

Guess some folks need more positive examples out there to help give confidence.

Well, I don't personally panic when long established poly formations go under but I've seen folks who do and I even comprehend why.
